Christmas Tree

We got our tree yesterday. There is a place in the next town over where you can cut any tree you want for $25. There is a collection of handsaws by the driveway, and a note to "Please leave money in the mailbox on the chicken house." This year, we were finally able to go in the daylight AND with no snow on the ground. After discussions of each one's height and whether or not it was triangular enough, we got to figure out the best way to secure it to the roof.

Previously we have stuffed the tree in the back of the van, but we have to fold down the seats and we can't all fit in one vehicle on the way home. We heaved it up on the roof , wrapped the rope around the trunk and then I began throwing the rope over to Mr. Midnight and he would pass it back to me through the open windows of the car. Completely by chance, I had my door open during this procedure. This was fortunate because when Mr. Midnight tried to enter the vehicle after giving the chickens our tree money, he found his door securely tied shut.

The four of us who were not driving held the ropes as if we could actually keep the tree on if it started to slip. (Aurora: "I'm holding tight, Mommy!") Liz held on so tight that her fingers were locked in position. Josh seemed to find it amusing to think of the various tree-loss disasters that could happen-- "What if the branches ripped off? What if we went around a corner really fast and the tree fell off?" Since the adults were a little concerned that something like that might actually happen, we were not amused.

"What," Rian wonders aloud," do the chickens plan with their riches?"

Rian is wanting a tree. We shall have to make do with a fragrant wreathe.
