This door is in our soon-to-be basement. It cannot be opened; perhaps that is why someone taped a big blue X on it. Note also the stone on either side of the door-- that is what all the walls of the basement look like. Very modern, n'est-ce pas? Those are the same kind of basement walls we have in the house I'm living in now, and that was built in 1870.We were trying to figure out how old the soon-to-be-purchased house is. The real estate ad said it was built in 1957. That seemed plausible until we saw this in the basement:

"Lightning Rod Equipment, Install Date 1951." Rather unlikely that lightning rods were installed 6 years before the house was built. We assumed it was built in 1950 or 1951, until we were in the bathroom. The house inspector taught us that toilets have their date of manufacture stamped on the inside of the tank lid, and ours says 1941.

Ahh, so that's why that was important. Nifty.
So when will everything be finalised?
The house appears to be aging before your eyes.
Hopefully they will be finalized by the 26. Happy Birthday to me!
Oooh! House Detectives! Let Rian come and play! Tis my very favorite game.
Open up some walls and see what newspapers ye find.
